At Comparoo, we believe your personal data belongs to you. We do not sell or monetize your data. The information we process serves exclusively to provide side-by-side price comparisons and keep fare data up to date through background price checks.
1. Who We Are
Comparoo is a price comparison app designed to help users find the lowest price across multiple providers. We publish Comparoo on the web and via the official Google Play Store (Android package ID: com.automation.jediapp). You can reach us at support@comparoo.com.
2. What Information We Collect
Information you provide:
- Sign-In Credentials: If you use Google Sign-In, we receive your name and email address. If you choose "Continue as Guest", we assign an anonymous temporary ID.
Information collected automatically:
- On-Device Location: We access device location queries locally to perform Places autocomplete lookups when you input pickup or destination points. This location data remains on the device and is not continuously tracked or uploaded to our servers.
- App & Device Metadata: We check device type, operating system version, app version (e.g., v2.0.1), and background service status to ensure compatibility.
- Price check activity: We log background price check events to keep fare data current and improve comparison accuracy.
3. On-Device Connections & OAuth
Comparoo allows you to connect your Uber, Lyft, and other provider accounts to run live, side-by-side pricing searches.
- Local Authentication: All OAuth login pages and authentication flows for third-party providers occur inside secure web containers locally on your mobile device.
- No Password Storage: Comparoo does not view, collect, transmit, or store your passwords. The resulting authorization tokens stay stored in secure local storage on your device.
- On-Device Price Checking: The app uses these local tokens to request price estimates directly. Only the final pricing results and ETAs are loaded in the interface.
4. What We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect or store your personal ride history or routes.
- We do not track your real-time physical location continuously.
- We do not share your account or search details with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not sell your personal data to third parties under any circumstances.
5. How We Use Your Information
We process data solely to:
- Deliver live pricing estimates in the Comparoo interface.
- Run background price checks via WorkManager services to keep fare data current and comparisons fast.
- Prevent fraud, multi-accounting, and system abuse.
- Provide technical support and respond to queries.
7. Data Retention & Account Deletion
We retain your profile data as long as your account remains active.
- Account Deletion: You can delete your account at any time. Simply navigate to Settings → Delete Account within the app.
- Immediate Purge: Deleting your account initiates a
DELETE /user/accountrequest. This immediately and permanently deletes your credentials and profile history from our servers and clears all cached data on your mobile device.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to request access to your profile data, request corrections, or request deletion. To submit a data inquiry, email us at support@comparoo.com. We will fulfill all valid verification requests within 30 days.
9. Children's Privacy
Comparoo does not target and is not designed for children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we discover a minor has created an account, we will purge the account details immediately.
10. Security
We apply standard encryption and server isolation practices to protect data in transit and at rest. However, no database or transmission channel is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Third-Party Links
Our app connects with Uber, Lyft, and other providers to facilitate price checks. We have no control over the privacy policies or security of these third-party platforms. Please refer to their respective policy pages for details.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy periodically. We will notify you of any policy revisions by updating the last revised date at the bottom or posting an alert inside the app. Continuing to use Comparoo indicates agreement with the updated terms.
